About this book
What does it mean to be free in a world in which the very processes of life, work, and thought and even man's ideals, tend constantly to rob him of his freedom? Here Helmut Thielicke, the world-famous preacher, teacher, and theologian, points out the modern threats to man's freedom: secularism, utopianism, industrialization, socialism, communism. and even democracy when it is uncertain of the true foundations of freedom. In chapters that are deeply thoughtful yet vivid with illustrations from real life, Dr. Thielicke shows himself again to be a great thinker who knows how to speak to Everyman. He issues a ringing challenge to the Christian West to rediscover the actual source of freedom: the God who loves man for his own sake. Only by returning to the source, says Dr. Thielicke, can we persuade our antagonists of our real concern for the dignity and freedom of man.
